Hi, I don't normally post about my daughter. She has adhd and odd, which I don't know much about, time is usually taken with my youngest who is very challenging. Not an excuse I know.
However both kids are reluctant to go to bed. I am very lucky if my daughter goes before 1am. She is 13yo. The other night she made a comment which got me thinking. "I'm bored, all my friends have gone to bed, there's no one on msn, you won't let me in the garden...I want to go to bed but my body won't let me"
How shouldI help her, TIA x

Has your DD tried melatonin, devientenigma?

devientenigma · 04/05/2010 19:48

Thanks Lou, no she's not on any drugs. She was offered some to get her through her school day, but she refused. She has also been a prolific bed wetter until this year, and wouldn't take any meds for that!! I don't know if there's a connection but since letting her got to bed herself she has stopped wetting the bed. Before we made her go to bed for 10 but by 12 the bed was soaking, then around 3ish the bed was soaking again. HTH x

Perhaps she could be offered melatonin? it isn't a drug as such. It is just the naturally occuring hormone that we all produce in the evening, which tells us we are tired. Some people don't make enough.

Without melatonin, DD1 (4) is doing roly-polys, bouncing around, despite saying she is tired. Just can't switch off. 2 mls of melatonin liquid, and she is begging for bed within 5 minutes.

Sorry i have no experience with adhd, DC with other issues. However, i was a complete insomniac until my mid-20's. I just could not switch off. Yoga and camomile tea are the only things that help me sleep. Haven't had much time for yoga recently but cannot sleep if don't have camomile tea.

Have to second the Melatonine with a good bed time routine (important even at 13)and no screen time for 1/2 before ''bed time''
