ds2 got himself ready for school this morning - he even noticed that I had laid out his brother's sweatshirt instead of his. He came into the kitchen wearing it and saying 'look Mummy you gave me ds1's sweatshirt'. He hadn't put on his shirt underneath but that is a minor point. School mornings can be so stressful in our household. Also, on the rare occasions that he gets himself dressed without me having to ask him ten times and then stand over him and point out every item to him, he usually wouldn't notice if the sweatshirt was too large or too small or inside out. I am extremely proud of him.
Also - and this is not a small victory but quite a large one - his neurologist has agreed that since he has been seizure free for over two years we can start weaning him off the sodium valproate. I am over the moon about this. I know many parents are worried about weaning because the seizures could come back, but I feel that the sodium valproate has affected him really badly, and during quite a formative age too (3 1/2 to nearly 6 yrs old). It will be really helpful to remove it from the 'mix' and see how many of his behavioural and sensory problems are down to the drug and how much is just him. Besides, he will still be on lamotrigine for a while - but he hasn't seemed to react to that as badly as the sodium valproate.
