So, how do we feel on SN about this? I am not a happy bunny, and am seriously thinking about what I will post on MN in future. If I do carry on posting, I will be regularly name changing from now on...

Am also seriously thinking about pressing the delete button on my FB account.

are they posting topics from SN section on FB?

thederkinsdame · 02/05/2010 21:54

No, as I understand it, if someone wanted to put a post on FB, to, say, help a friend, they could press the facebook link and it would paste it to their homepage. Ditto twitter. So I am feeling a bit uncomfortable about it. It's one thing to be on MN and googleable, but someone could paste a convo we've had on here to a big group on FB, and personally I think some of us on SN are very easy to identify... Hence my discomfort. TBH, I would be happier if MNHQ would get rid of the button for SN and for some of the other areas where people are posting sensitive stuff.

if you click the f button it just takes you to your own home page.
tbh nothing has changed,
the sn topic has never been private

glittery · 02/05/2010 22:26

yeah i get what you mean TDD, i know stuff posted on here is searchable and isnt private as such but at the same time i can see why it wouldnt be good to have some posts "advertised" to a wider and possibly non SN audience.
to be honest im more on SKITUK more often than not now as it is private but at the same time i usually dont post anything on here that i wouldny say in RL or that most folk dont already know IYSWIM?

2shoes · 02/05/2010 22:59

skituk always seems more private.
wish I could get "into" it

thederkinsdame · 03/05/2010 00:46

What is SKITUK? Haven't heard of it?

i find Special Kids good as the forum is all split into different sections...education, ebay items of interest, communication, get togethers, extended family members etc.

i also really like the professionals area where you can ask questions about equipment and stuff from reps from Tendercare, R82 etc.
i know here is split into different sections too but they arent really used as much as on SK.

they also have an annual family camp and organise different get togethers throughout the year, thats who we went on the Calvert Trust activity break with, it was also subsidised so it made it a bit cheaper for us

Heres the registration page if anyone is interested in joining.

although it is a private forum you can also stay quite anonymous on there too, quite a few regularly posting members dont post photos or full names, although the ones that do make it easier to follow who you are talking too!

glittery · 03/05/2010 10:53

just so i dont seem biased towards SKITUK, there is also parents of disabled children forum, most of which can be read without being a member but they do have a few private areas as well.
I think they "advertised" on here a while back when they were just setting up but there seem to be quite a lot of members now.
