When my ds2 use to hit himself and make himself bleed i would grip him vicelike grip and gently rock him whispering soothing things into his ears ie its ok calm down, mummy has you mummy loves you etc i could be doing that for hour or so a time and it was hard as he still fought to hurt himself over the years as his understanding has grown it has gotten easier tho xx

It is hard isnt it,what about putting him in a buggy securely strapped in? my ds2 now ends up having bad asthma attacks because of his temper they end the tantrum/meltdown but then we have to calm him down quickly before he has bad attacks x

My DS used to bang his head on the floor. It wasn't in temper, but was a sensory issue. I used to put cushions around him so he didn;t hurt himself as much. I know its not helping with the real issue, but it might make you feel as though he is a bit safer.
