Teaching concentration?

Does any one have any tips for me, I plan to attempt to devise a training plan to gradually increase the amount of time DS2 can focus on academic work, particularly written work (he doesn't have a problem concentrating on buliding lego constructions!).

He claims his distractions come from within rather than background noise etc.

He needs a simple strategy to bring him back to reality when his mind wanders.

I was thinking along the lines of charting the number of words he manages to write in one sitting, two or three times a week, but could also do with a snappy acronym about concentration for him to learn.

Can you guess we've just had parents' night?

Hi Wiggly - This is probably not the type of answer you were looking for but have you tried fish oils? I tried with DD for about 3 months and her concentration at nursery seemed to massively improve. The only problem was she seemed to have side effects of loose stools (lovely)! so I decided to take her off them. Unfortunatley it does seem that she is loosing concentration again

I have put him back on fish oils recently, they do seem to make him a little calmer (and therefore ready to work on his concentration).
