DD1 has MLD, and she would need full 1:1 at school (she has this at preschool), but is going to Special School in September.

It really depends on the school, the type of needs your child has, the type of school!

In special school children usually don't have 1:1 hours specified (tho there are exceptions for children with complicated medical problems..) .This is simply as classes are very small with several TAs, and one to one work takes place as a matter of course plus very small groups.

For example where I work, and where my son is a pupil we have classes of usually 7-9 pupils with a teacher and two- 3 TAs. In fact in my class we actually do have 4 pupils and 4 staff (exceptional needs!)

In mainstream however getting max hours is very important.. but it is VERY variable. I used to work in mainstream with a little boy who had 25 hours support, and then it was actually increased to 32 to have preparation time etc built in, but I think his family had to fight hard for that!

My son has MLD and ASD and is in special school and his statement doesn't specify hours at all because of the school being sp ed.
