SALT tips please (conjunction words)

Hello

DS's target this term is to extend his sentences using and, then,next etc. I want to try and help him at home but I am a little stuck on what to do other than modeling. SALT have given me so sequencing card but ds isn't interested. She has also given me an oral motor program but can't get him to do theses either I can't seem to motavate him.

Try making the activities a little more concrete - ie; real activities that interest him.
For example "Get the grape AND eat the grape, get the raisin AND eat ...." Make it a fun giggly game with lots of repetition and just model the sentences ... eventually DS may join in. Other ideas could be "I'll roll the ball AND you catch it". Also try to be aware of conjunctions in your own speech and use short grammatically correct sentences with the target words in - with loads of repetition- so for eg talk about what's going to happen. We'll get dressed THEN brush our teeth.

with DS I used to model on things he liked doing after school - e.g at first very simply "McDonalds, then playground, OK?". Other people on here have used visuals - you can get nice first/next/last type velcro boards from ebay I think. Also I had some nice jigsaws from Boots that were a few part sequences of kids doing painting/eating, so I'ld get DS to do the jigsaw and encourage him to talk about them, with me modelling the joining words.

What are conjunction words?

Thanks you for those tips I will give defintly them a go. Ds really isn't a child that like to be taught in a traditional way so real activities like you say are probably the best way.

Conjunction words are words used to join words together such as for, and, but, or, yet, so. For example cookies AND milk.

Ds SALT is currently tring to get him to extend his sentences. I feel that this is going to be quite a difficult goal for ds to achieve.
