Hi, we have sat freezing all day. Boiler is broke...no heating or hot water. Can't get anyone to come and fix this. Son relies on the heat for his circulation, heart condition and lung probs etc etc. What should I do??

devientenigma · 28/02/2010 16:58

Hi waiting...good idea but no one will have us.
trace...been on the phone to british gas..1 off payment is £168, can't do it until next week and won't prioritise us as we are not contract holders or british gas customers!!!

Can you get a hold of some heaters to stop you freezing?

magso · 28/02/2010 18:03

Don't know if it cold up there but is the boiler shut down because the condensing pipe is frozen solid (because when they first installed them they did not realise they would have to lag the external pipe)? This happened to our new condensing boiler and we managed to fix it with help from directions on the boiler manufactures website. ( We had to defrost the condenser pipe with hot water bottles, then lag the pipe) The other thing is does your household insurance have emergency cover? It might be worth checking your policy just in case you have - as they sort out emergencies for you.

Thanks all, I've managed to borrow 2 small heaters..not the same, not much heat but better than nothing. Magso we are going to have a look at the frozen pipe to see if it is that tommorrow. If not I will phone around again, maybe someone can do it on a Monday...if not will hunt out ins docs. Someone on facebook also mentioned the duty socail worker, so phoned them to no avail. However should we have been renting, council or private they would of took it all on board to sort for us as a priority emergency.
They also were not happy with British gas. We should of been a priority wether we were customers or not!!!
Thanks anyway, Take care.

Have you got anything sorted yet?

Mouseface · 01/03/2010 12:07

British Gas have us down as priority because DS is disabled,we are a customer of theirs but don't know if that matters. We had an issue with the boiler and they were there in a flash. You have to let them know your little one has SN, my DS has heart issues too, and then they'll list you. We also get a free safety check on all gas appliances once a year

Hope this helps for the future and you're all thawed out now!!
