hiya, me again, not winging this time!!!
anyway ds almost 4, lang delay of 20 months, behaviour probs and a lot of autistic traits (although paed thinks not asd cos he has eye contact and is very sociable with kids) anyway ds has always had obsession wit my hair, he ill try so many times in the day to touch and sniff my hair and rub in his face, also to calm him down sometimes, i dont let him just get my hair whenever he wants and try to limit it although he tries, portex lady said to try stop him doing it, er yeah ok as easy as that, and anyway it is giving him some comfort. Well ds has also started playing with his own hair, not realising he doing it and i noticed a bal patch 2 weeks ago about size of 50p piece, i havent said anything to him as dont want to upset him, and he prob wont understand if i start saying he has bald patch,

what do i do, is this norm for kids with sn, has anyone alse dc do the same thing, also is this stimming.

Hi Pokhara

My oldest ds (nt) would be a great hair fiddler and twiddler - it relaxes him and would be a similar comfort to a blankie. He's a bit older now so growing out of it (10). DS2 with sn (hfa/adhd) has a blanket!

I'm not sure it could be stimming, somebody wiser than me might have a similar experience.

There is also trichtillomania which is hair pulling - it's not uncommon but you would probably need to see GP/Paed to get referral for approp help and guidance if you think necessary. I have a feeling there may have been a thread on this board or perhaps mental health but you can google.

Sorry not much help, someone will come along soon I'm sure! x
