Meeting Ed Psych what to expect

I recently had a progress meeting for ds who is at a language group. Although the meeting went well and ds is progressing I noticed that his key worker kept saying that he need one to one a lot so the next day I spoke to the senco about this and she said she would get the ed psych to assess him. I was wondering what I should expect.
Thank xx

I had a meeting with DD's Ed Psych a few weeks ago. Basically he asked about DD - what recent improvements I had seen in her and just questions about her - what she likes doing etc.. He will be working with her/observing her and will write a report to the local authority hopefully to recommend a statement for her.
I guess your DS's keyworker will be wanting the Ed Psych to observe your DS and agree that he needs more help and then the language group will be able to get funds from your local authority to use towards giving your son the extra help he needs.

The ed psych will observe in school or home to assess. they are a great help so dont be wary of them. I have got a great one that sees my ds, she recently went to see him in school and remembered him from a few years ago. She has been nothing but helpful and supportive and has helped me get extra support in school for ds.

They may do some cognitive tests (IQ, reading levels, numeracy/literacy). With DS she did it by working one-to-one and asking questions verbally and asking to point or reply to a question. DS was a bit reluctant to co-operate but that was noted in the report as well - it is part of the observations.

Thank you for your replys. Senco said hopefully he would be seeing ds next week when after half term. Ds starts school in september so I really want a clear picture of his need before then.
