My ds3 had grommits fitted 9th january.. since then we have noticed thick dark/burnt orangey coloured wax coming out of his ears (both ears) when you look in his ears there is loads down in his ear drum unreachable..

No-one involved with him has seen any improvement he louder than he was speech wise..he is selective mute mainly in school enviroment but even they have said that the occasional times they get sound from him he is very loud

Managed to get him a check up on wednesday but am wondering if anybody else lo has had grommits fitted that hasnt worked and if so what happens next x

yes.. well one fell out v quickly and they didn't want to put her through op again. We went with a bone conductor hearing aid instead. (amplifies sound through bone and thus bypasses the ear - ergo doesn't matter if ears are abs full of gunk) Maybe worth a try at least?

has been much better for us - though might also be cos there is some underlying hearing loss as well as glue ear (can't tell)

it's actually good that the wax is coming out rather than sitting in the tubes. My dd2 (no grommits but may be given this option soon) has both sensorineural loss and glue ear. This morning found same (thick, orangey wax)around and in one ear. Really pleased, a yeehah moment - better out than in!

He has always had runny gunky ears he has very bad glue ear and mild hearing loss but this is total diff colour to what it has been pre-grommits and it is just stuck in the ear lobe will leak out a bit but you can see loads down there and obviously i cant start trying to get it out. Suppose we will find out wednesday whAts going on xx

Hi,
My son had bilatral grommnits fitted, he then got an infection and they fell out with that sometimes the discharge can push the grommits out, they had been in about 12weeks when the came out but i only knew they came out at his check, they will look to see if they can see the grommits in place still.
Sometimes there is a sudden improvement and sometimes its gradual.

btw my sons discharge when he had the infection sounds very simmilar to ur sons discharge, infections are common in children with grommits and most are painless as its the pressure which causes the pain and if the grommits are there this pressure is not there.
