Brain malfunction - says DS

DS is nearly 7 and has taken along time to learn how to dress himself in the morning.

He has been doing this for a few months now but the last two days he has looked at his clothes and said 'brain malfunction' and then got panicked because he doesn't know what to do.

This morning he said 'it's all gone from my brain, I can't remember it'.

He has been quite relaxed this week so it was a bit out of the blue. I was encouraging and just helped him but it was worrying.

Anyone had anything similar?

Does sound a bit worrying. What a lovely phrase - one I can empathise with!!
Most of us dress without thinking of how to dress- it is patterned into our brains and we can think of other things as we do it. I know my child(ASD/LD) does not seem to learn these patterns so easily so still at 10 needs prompts (for dressing a chart and his clothes laid out in order) to do things. I wonder if your son is similar but more able to express it?

Would a simple flowchart / wordchart help him?

Thanks. I will try and take a step back and go back to basics with it. We have a white board so maybe I'll start with that and a picture
