Need help appealing Housing Benefits refusal to backdate

Hi everyone

We finally got awarded DLA last year - and they backdated it to 7th October.

I applied for Housing Benefits the very day we got the letter from DWP - that was 30th November. I asked for the benefits to be backdated to 7th October which is when we started getting DLA.

Just got a letter yesterday saying we've been awarded HB but they won't backdate it to 7th October (they're starting it 30th Nov).

Do you think there is any point in appealing this? If so, any advice on what I could say on my appeal letter?

Thanks so much!

Sorry, MarnaBean, Riven is right. To get it backdated, you would have had to apply when you applied for DLA, perhaps be turned down, then go back with the award letter, and ask for it to be backdated. Then you would have applied in time, IYSWIM.

Thanks Riven and Lou.

Thanks very much for your help - saves me a lot of hassle. Wish I'd known all that before hand! Never mind - I'm still happy with the award.

Have a lovely day
