Hi I am new to the board and I'm really hoping that somebody can help me!
I would like to know if anybody has any experience with the LEA for Reading for children with statements,
My husband is in the army and we are currently based in Colchester. He has been given the opportunity to apply for a posting in Reading.
My eldest daughter has a Statement of special needs, and has been given full time support in Mainstream school here in Colchester.
My husband and I would like to make an informed decision as to whether making this move would be the right thing to do!!! I have been told that some counties are better than others at supporting children of special needs but have only heard this through word of mouth, so have no idea which counties are good and which are bad!
I would be really greatful to hear of anybody's opinion of Reading LEA, good or bad, or suggestions where i could find out more.
I tried ringing the LEA myself but they cannot help as I don't have an address which we won't get until we know if we are definatley going to move!!! and we aren't keen to say yes or no until we know what the LEA is like!! Bit of a catch 22 I think!!!
Hope that made sense, thx

Keep bumping as I know there are people here in that area.

Bumping for you. The other thing that matters is the wording and specificity of the existing statement before you move as it moves with your child and should legally be honoured. In our county (not Reading) it is very hard to get an adiquate statement - but children who move here with more realistically generous and specific statements (and parents prepared to demand their childs needs are met) often do much better.

Any post on this thread bumps, but if you start a threadwith reading in the title bar, I'd hazard a guess you'd get some good respondents who might not click on a general title

Hi sizeclan, I'm in Colchester!! are you north or not? I have an 11yo DD on SA+ at secondary. How have you found Colchester for support? Wish I could help you with the Reading question, not my area of expertise, just thought I'd say hi!

Hi Loudlass I live on the army estate near shrub end, not sure wether it is North, South or what!!!! I have found Clochester really good for support, always managed to get what was needed for DD without to much fighting, only problem i have had is waiting times for OT and physio, OT took 2 years!!!
