Evening all! As the title suggests, I wondered if anyone has experience of homeopathy for ASD?
TIA x

No experience myself, But I have a friend who has used homeopathy with some success with her son with various motor and LD problems. She reckons it's improved his concentration and cognitive abilities. I'm considering trying it with my son, but first I tried it myself for the last 4 months to cure chronic sleep problems. I think it's worked. I can sleep now!, so I 'm going to take DS now. Thanks for reminding me. As far as I can tell, it can't do ay harm, and it might do some good.
would be good to find out how you get on.

waiting I have no idea whether it is helpful or not, but given that there are a fair few therapies out there with proven outcomes I'd personally use my finite resources on those.

Not to say it isn't beneficial. Just that you might want to consider where your energies go. I could live my time over many times on the therapies that are 'known' to be helpful.

thanks! I just thought homeopathy seemed quite low maintenance. Maybe I'm wrong? I am hugely cynical but a bit ignorant re homeopathy so looking to hear experiences.

waiting I'm not saying it isn't worth trying.

I do worry however, that a lot of parents feel quite powerless after diagnosis and are driven to do 'something' to help their child to try to make an impact. Parents often NEED to be doing something.

I think it is hard, but there are more concrete 'somethings' that you can do. i.e. getting a statement, proper diagnosis, some form of data-driven evidenced based therapy etc etc. SALT/OT advice etc etc.

It is just my opinion of course, but there seems very little room after all that for the unproven/low impact stuff.

By all means give it a go if you have the spare resources.

Not had a diagnosis yet. Have been very proactive though and he has input from all services I can access. Apart from OT (grr) but we are working on that!

I agree with 2C+ - you can't expect miracles, and of course it goes alongside all the conventional therapies. . . which all require time and input from parents as well as the professionals. Homeopathy might be an easy if expensive 'extra'

But still, I'd try anything if I though it would help!

waitingforgodot · 06/12/2009 16:04

I am going to give it a try and see what they suggest

I agree with 2C+ too. I am a bit cynical about the snake oil sellers that seem to offer help - at a cost - when you feed desperate for a cure.

I have a hippy friend who swears by homeopathy, osteopathy, whateveropathy and we always end up disagreeing about it. I tried cranial osteopathy for DS when he was a baby but it didn't seem to achieve anything except a hole in my pocket.

not sure if this is helpful...

friends son is 11 yr old with hfa/aspergers,

they are seeing a sensory trained OT and been doing exercises for 6 mths helping retained reflexes (google 'retained reflexes' and 'crossing the midline')and also doing course of 'therapeutic listening' (similar to listening programme.)

he really is a lot happier, less frustrated, far more part of things, and far more invovled in conversations etc,and also physically more coordinated.

Thanks improvingslowly. Will go google! Donkeyderby-there are a lot of charlatans out there but I am curious and willing to try anything!
