The Educational Psychologist is coming to see my possibly aspergic ds1 (6) in January. I was wondering what to expect and what kind of outcomes there could be

Spent a lot of the day in tears because so much has gone on recently that I've reached that point so I feel I just need to know whats happening next

My son has a educational physcologist visit him in the early years unit, he is 4.9 and in Reception. Basically they observe him in the session and then feedback with the Teacher and you sit in on the meeting. I then receive a typed report summing up what she has gone through in the meeting. I find the whole thing very distressing myself. The EP recommends strategies to the teacher and things for us to do at home to support my son. Make sure you have the date in your diary because I have missed an appointment before and she went away without talking to me as I didn't know she was coming. I am told by the school that I am lucky for him to have been 'picked up' as they have other children who need help who aren't getting the support they need. (Although this doesn't make me feel any better). I would imagine that it would be similar to my experience.

hi, i really feel for you. we had an ed psych assessment, dropped my son off, hes 7, and he spent three hours doing tests and so on. a few weeks later we had a long and quite upsetting report, lots of jargon, and with a huge list of recommendations. then its up to you to fight to get anything done.
not to be negative, but from what i can see the ed psy doesnt do anything apart from say what the problem is and make suggestions, not concrete ones. its then up to the parents to decide how to implement them.
