Hi everyone
I put my message on the Education board and a mum on there suggested I put it here too:
Hi all
I'm writing in the hope you can help us with my daughter's 'condition'. She's had assessments for her speech, education and developmental levels. She is in year 3 in mainstream school.
The conclusion is that she has a developmental issue which manifests itself in her inability to concentrate for any length of time, retaining and processing instructions and information. It's not very severe but still quite disruptive of her normal school life. It means that she will not be able to do certain things like sit exams (she bombed in her SATS!).
They have recommended speech and occupational therapy and I wondered if anyone else is or has been in this situation please?
Would really appreciate any advice.
Thanks a lot.

hi I have had an OT assessment of my ds and he is just starting regular OT sessions plus activities we are doing at home. The assessment was really helpful in starting to understand why he can't concentrate and the report also included various things we could do at home and school to help him. To be honest I found the OT assessment far more helpful than the assessment by the developmental paediatrician.

Have they suggested she has sensory processing disorder (SPD) or sensory integration disorder? If so, an Advanced Search will show lots of useful discussions within the Special Needs topic. In fact it was only after reading these myself that I started to wonder if it might be going on with my ds. I also read 'The Out of Sync Child' and 'The Out of Sync Child Has Fun' which were really helpful.

Thanks very much for your input. She has SPD. We are just overwhelmed with information and the program given to us to help her. She is the eldest and has 2 younger siblings very close in age. I guess I will have to do the search and educate myself more first.
Thanks again.
