Hospital appointments

Does you employer give you time off for your child's hospital appointments or do you have to take time off on own time (ie Annual holiday etc).

Have to take it as holiday or unpaid, BUT they have to be flexible & really cannot refuse.

Thanks, I too have to use own time or unpaid. Just seems a bit nonsensical when you are allowed time of for own appointments. where I work there are parents in other sections within the organisation that allow time off with pay etc.

Now i must confess (whispers) that i have (only once or twice) when out of holiday entitlement claimed that I have an appt.

TBH i don't think my boss was fooled for one minute but he didn't question me! He is agood boss though.

Yes that has been suggested to me by a few of my colleagues, but knowing my luck they would ask for appt card (that they don't usually do)

My husband was just having this conversation with someone at work (a big national company), the other day, since both our boys have appointments 2 days running in a couple of weeks that he needs to take leave for. He was told by a superior that he shouldn't have to be taking holiday for appointments but should be taking paid personal business days. DH did point out that we take advantage of the days off and fit other stuff in. He did get told quite explicitly, last year, by someone who has now left that he can't use carer's leave for appointments though.

His employer does ask for appointment cards or letters when personal days are take, though.
