ok final thread abou tthis I promise - appealing statements.

We are appealing the final statement sorry for the continuous questions. I have written the appeal but Im not sure that what I have written is right and how it supposed to be iyswim. I started by saying that the provision that has been suggested is vague etc and got the bits of the guidelines to go with it. I then talked about SALT provision, the parts I dont like and how and why I want it changed. I did the same for OT, PECS Makaton and little bits and pieces I want changed.

What I really want to know is how much detail do I go into. Im I supposed to be brief and to the point or am I going into long and detailed arguments including evidence for all these things.

Im cutting it really fine now- need to send it tomorrow.

I would got into lots of detail to back up your appeal. It's the first thing they'll read, remember. I would also quote from whatever reports you have from professionals as then it backs you up, iyswim. Good luck!

Agree with Give. At this stage you can get very picky. Quote them directly and then put forward your counter argument.

Clear concise argument and lots of evidence to support your claims are the way forward here.

(I believe IPSEA have a separate Tribunal Line if you want to call them tomorrow as well).

do you have a sen toolkit - code of practise ? you can download one off the internet then quote the sections that the statement is not adhering to ie statement is vague then quote what they have written, quote the SEN and then quote any paperwork that you have to support wanting more support etc.

but you may not have time .... sorry read this late....
as for details, ours was about 200 pages long

have the code of practise used it to cover all the changes I wanted because the are all about not properly specifying what the provisions are.

200 pages long? arrgh mine is just 17 pages but they are more changes of phrases than actual provision.

I have already called the tribunal line but the lady that was helping me didn't reply to my emails.

Is there anything else I can do/add to makeit better?

dont worry on the length, in hindsight i think ours was too long just stick to educational issues - we had medical and social as well and they dismissed them. i would keep it brief as they are more likely to read it and take it in. we also had meetings with the lea before the tribunal to agree the statement so most of the little bits were agreed before the meeting - it was really salt provision and school placement we argued out on the day.

ok about to post it off should I highlight the quotes I have taken from the reports?

Haven't read the thread yet but wanted to say, please don't let this be your last thread if you need more. You are an inspiration and your threads are very helpful to lots of us, even if we don't always post. I know your questions are specific, but they give us some insight into the process and what is possible.

I managed to get it off but I dont know what sort of quality it was. I read it so many times it no longer made any sense iykwim.I got so sick of looking at it in the end. So its just a waiting game now.

How do you feel? Relieved or sick?

I feel not good. Not sick but not good. I feel like I probably did it all wrong, made major mistakes and noone will take it seriously and the council response will pull it to pieces.

unfotunately that comes with the territory but you did your best - its not as if this is the only thing you do. the waiting game is a nightmare but don't let the bastards get you down - you are doing this for a reason and focus on that ....

That's only because you are worried. You have a very good reason to worry. We all do. I'm sure it feels like the biggest test and your whole performance is under scrutiny.

Is there anyway you can manage to reflect on how far you have come. All the little battles that you have won so far, the direct ones and the indirect ones that you can't be sure are attributable to you, but probably went smoother than they would if you hadn't have challenged and asked questions?

This is an important piece of the picture of course, but it isn't the only piece and you're doing bloody brilliantly. It also won't be the last opportunity you have to address the issues you have, less easy, more work etc. but I know you are determined enough to see it through and you will do.
