Hello

If anyone has had a child assessed for Dyslexia in the London area and would recommend the assessor they used please could you let me know! Anyone used Dyslexia Action for an assessment? It's a big decision to make and would love some first hand recommendations on who to go to.

Thanks

I have used dyslexia action - though am not in the London area. I would recommend them. They did not try to flog me lessons or anything else! It depends on your reasons for the assessment really.

Thanks for that - it's good to know! My main aim in getting him assessed is to have a practical set of suggestions that could help him with his literacy and also for future years to help with any extra help / time etc he may need in exams / course work.

We have just had a private test done with London dyslexia action. We were given a 'diagnosis' of dyslexia on the day but are still waiting for the report to come through with finer details. They were very good. I sat in on the test and was very impressed.

Be aware that if your child is in a state school then the private test will most likely not be accepted by them as 'proof' that your child is dyslexic and you will still probably have a huge fight on your hands!!

Was worth every penny for us...we know now that we really weren't just being pushy parents who had a 'dumb' child and wanted to label him to make ourselves feel better!! LOL

If you are sure your child is dyslexic and the school wont help you should be able to phone your local education department and request a report yourself parents get a copy of the report so its all sorted .It only took a few weeks once we phoned up ourselves despite the claim from the headteacher of a school classed as outstanding by ofsted that it would take 18 months
