OT what to expect

I have my little ones first OT appt next week can anyone tell me what will happen ai it please thanks

How old is he ? Initially it is usually just a case of playing games and activities to assess the issues and help devise a programme of exercises but the length and type of tasks are very age dependent. Also the ot will take history from you about his birth, development and your concenrs.

we had a full assessment at the first appointment, took well over an hour. It is done in a fun way though, and ds usually loves it.

From that they can decide on a course of action - therapy sessions, exercises to do at home, recommend equipment, go into the school to make recommendations, etc.

he is 2.6 has low muscle tone in his legs so is falling over all the time has gross and fine motor skill delay and speech and language problems thanks for replying at least I know now what to expect.

The HV did say sometime ago that he could do with a reinforced pushchair for him and she did say to speak to someone but I couldn't remember who so should I mention this to her? He is 2.6 and his pushchairs don't last long as the backs of them seem to go not sure why this was happening when I told HV she said it might be because of his age weight being to big for the pushchairs I buy but they all seem to say 15kgs and he doesn't way that, at least I dont think he does but he wont let anyone weigh him.

You need to ask about a referal to wheelchair services if you need a special pushchair. We got our referal from the OT, so it could be worth askign them. Not sure if the HV would be able to refer, maybe the paed could?
