AS i was wondering if your child with AS does things like this?

we have been having some kind of play therepys, and different apportionments last few weeks and we have a dx oF AS ds sat and got all dinosaurs out of box and put in colour groups not the same shapes, sizes, just colours must admit looked colourful on the table! hes 7 we was told that what he did is typical of AS , but to us its normal he always does this!

also they told ds a story about this picture and then asked questions and he couldn't fill in the blanks kind of thing, you know could not read between the lines.

ds is 7 and if i leave him on computer all day hes no trouble at all so just questioning our dx i think i know there's more to his AS. we got a dx based on a few weeks last year so why do thses tests now? or is it to help him?

Im not sure why they would be doing these tests now tbh trace.

But yes what your DS did with dinosaurs is something my DD (almost 7) would do, if the had numbers on them she would order them by that, but if no number then she would order them by colour.

FWIW my DD is no trouble most of the time, however i think our parenting skills differ when you have a child with different needs. I dont always see what extra help and support she needs, ive just renewed her DLA and i was alarmed when i saw it written down just how much extra help she does need . My youngest daughter is just coming up to 5 and is over taking DD1 in lots of areas and is much more independent than DD1

DD orders things by colours too. You can always see when she has been at my friend's house as all the funkeys are lined up on the windowsill in colours

No idea why they are doing the tests if you have a dx tbh. If you agree with the dx, then I would say to just ignore whatever is happening, and just work with understanding it, how best to help him etc and not worry about the outcomes of tests.

(Says the woman with no dx - all I know is that DD "fits" with so much of AS, we just now go with that being her, and handle situations accordingly iyswim)

3cutedarlings thanks i wonder if its because we are the ones who is not convinced and they are trying to tell us by doing it this way, also his school say they dont think he as it! i wounder they just making sure?

Oh the staying on the computer all day and being fine - there was a thread a while back with us banging our heads against walls trying to get them away from computer/ds/tv and go out for a bit during the summer

Yes ds1 does exactly those things- there's a small table in the lpayroom and he always has something or other categorised on there, often toptrumps atm but it was coloured pencils this morning!

The fill in the blanks thing is also common- it's part of the BIBIC thing we did, what it is looking at depends on what the blanbks were- emootions,r esponses, rpedicting storyline etc.

I wouls think reason for doing the tests is to work out where the area of diddiculties are- AS varies so much. School btw isn't nnecessarilya clue: a big thing for some AS kids is that they can hold it together in ne environment and then release it in the other- for soem release is in the 'safe' place (usually home), for others they can't keep it in that long so it all comes out at school (DS1 was very much at home in Infants but extra demands of Juniors changed that)

You know, ds3 can cope all day long on a computer and he's marked enough ASD to be in a unit. Some asd kids have specific areas of ability /focus and the PC is a commn one- conforms very nicely to rules does a PC! Also worth noting though that if we do leave ds3 on a PC / DS for long his interarction skills become even more noticeably impiared so worsening things overall IYSWIM

DD is fabulous at school. I want them to send that child home

flame tell me about it! and when we get him of its am bored , bored then he asks if he can go on his ds, no can i go on wii NO PLAY then out come the dinosaurs and cars not playing lining, putting in to colours and then its can i have some blue crisps and white pop i know the more i right i know in my heat he is AS i suppose i don't want to believe it

We have wanting to go on something with pixels when we are at home, or wanting to make stuff (which involves DS messing it up and lots of squealing). Or, wanting to GO somewhere as she is much happier if we are out places for some reason.

Trace it takes a looooong time to accept it I know, it took a very specialist and pioneering test to convince me about ds3! I knew but didn't accept, I think I must ahve considered every other DX in the book!

DH half thinks (and I can see hisn point) DS3 has mroe complexgenetic issues- he's very much a girl in a boys body and we're noticing this lots as he ages

hey he is still the same little lad trace, just with a bit of paper that explains some of the difficulties he has .

i must read up on it, it may help me understand!
