Hello 2Shoes, during my plotting and scheming to fill up the holidays with activities, it has emerged that I will be visiting Brighton with one of my families. So far we will be going to the pier and having a picnic at Devils Dyke. I have looked at things to do in Brighton on the Internet, but nothing beats local knowledge. What would you recommend as must-see attractions? Many thanks.

tbh i would just say go daown the seafront, it will be buzzing and there is loads too do and see.

Hello SirSupportman! If you wander along the seafront there's loads to see. If you head over towards the West Pier, there is a nice paddling pool. If you go further along to Hove Lagoon (a short drive or bus ride away) there is another lovely paddling pool (plus loos). This one also has a playground, Heather Mill's cafe, a boating lake and a lovely grassy area all round it. You are also a stone's throw from the beach there.

Another thing you can do is to take the Volks railway along the front from the Palace Pier eastwards to the marina. There are some factory outlet shops there plus lots of lovely restaurants on the boardwalk overlooking the boats. If you get off the train half way along, there is a playground called Peter Pan's. It has those jets of water that spurt up intermittently through the ground which adds to the play ground fun. There is a cafe and good loos there too.

Of course there is a Sealife Centre by the Palace Pier too. Um, Will post some more when I've thought of things

Oh yes, there are loos at the West Pier paddling pool too.

I've just thought. If you were at Hove Lagoon for the day you could obviously take a picnic, but if you wanted something more substantial I would recommend Woodies Diner. It does burgers, fajitas, great fries (a sort of Beach Boys' american diner place). It is just along a bit further, past a pets Corner and opposite the Tescos/M&S garage. You can walk it from the lagoon. Also, if you're too lazy to take your own picnic, you can pick up M&S goodies at said garage

You mention Devils Dyke, you can get an open-top sight-seeing bus from the pier to there which is fun. There is usually a Mr Whippy van at the Dyke too

I can heartily recommend Hove lagoon. There's a paddling pool, a swing park, a skateboard park and a couple of cafes nearby - not to mention the beach if all the mad made stuff gets dull!!

It's good for a whole day and cheap too. One of the cafes is the recently opened VBites - Heather Mills' vegan cafe but don't let that put you off. There are burgers, hot dogs and chips all very reasonably priced.
