Special needs buggy or large buggy?

Dd2's buggy broke yesterday, the wheel buckled so i think she may be to heavy for a buggy, she is able to walk but we are planning a few days out in the holidays and she is a runner and sometimes wont walk, it would be a lot easier to use a buggy.

I dont want to spend a fortune as i only want to use it for the summer, how do i go about getting a Mclaren Major? Or can anyone recommend a buggy that will take a large 3.4 year old?

DS was similar at that age, could walk but little stamina so still needed buggy. Went from Maclaren Tecno to Jane Powertrack which had wider seat so was more comfy, used that till he was about 6 then got Major through local services, think it was OT who made referral. HV or GP might be able to advise on referral routes.

Our HV arranged referral to wheelchair services for our Major. It was very straightforward.

if you dont need the support of a SN buggy then there are some buggys that go higher than the mormal 13/15kg weight limit

dearer options are phil&teds, mountain buggy,maclaren techno xlr, baby jogger city mini.

cheaper options (but still nearly £200 are emmaljunga scooter and the out n about nipper 360

or you could just spend £35 on a folding umbrella buggy from mothercare which should last you over the summer?

Thanks ohmeohmy- we have a powertrack but it takes up a lot of space in my car (a great pushchair though, i can fit my 5 year old in it), i need something that folds up small to leave room in my boot for shopping . Sadly dd has been refused OT (not sure why) , i could try our HV or her pead. I picked up a bebe comfort buggy at a boot sale which was wide enough but was a night-mare to push (i don't think it could take her weight.

where do you live Marne? I have a buggy/wheelchair that you could borrow if you live anywhere near Bolton/Mcr? Going to Lakes tomorrow if you are up there? You can get Mclarens on Ebay sometimes-or try freecycle-place a "wanted" ad-you never know, somebody may have one! Somebody on here offered to lend one for the summer-cant remember who but it wasnt that long ago!

Monster- I'm in the south (Dorset) so the wrong direction, thank you very much for your offer. I am watching one on e-bay but i'm not sure how high i can afford to bid plus its 2 hours drive away.

I have searched Gumtree, add trader etc but can't find anything. I'm off to a car boot sale tomorrow so might pick up a cheep stroller.

i have one i was going to put on ebaybut never got around to it. im in notts but could courier it easily enough, its not in fantastic condition but seems ok, its missing th footplate and the shoulder straps but has waist bit of strap. can take picks and describe better the not so good condition bits about it if you like email me jenniferault @ btinternet.com am not wanting much for it really and courier be about £10 i think. i have a major already and bought this one for the seat pad it had on it and person selling it wouldnt sell seperately lol so i decided to buy it anyway then ever since been meaning to put it on ebay though as not perfect condition etc keep putting it off as no it wont go for much and nver made the time!!!

Marne, if you have a small car you may not get the Major in the boot. We had a Peugeot 205 and the only way we could fit it in was lying on the floor behind the front seats.

Marne, I have a mac major sitting doing nothing. Cant use it due to DS3 still being little. If you wanted to corrow it for summer, I would happily send it to you. All you'd need to o is pay courier there and back (about £10 each way). I'm away on Monday til Friday, but could always arrange for it to be collected from MIL's. If you want it, let me know.

We have a smallish car (Fiat Skoda), and it doesn't fit in out boot, but we put it on the floor at the back and fits fine.

I have just got back from a late night jaunt around Asda (my 'free time' and they are selling a "folding wheeled chair" for £69. It looks ok, made of fabric, obviously made for adults but it desnt look big and you would have to use your own belt or harnesss, but it looks good as a spare or emergency chair. Probably better if your dc's dont have behaviour or seating issues but great for kids who find walking any distance difficult.

Thank you 5inthebed but i'm worried that if i damaged it i wouldn't be able to afford to replace it. I have bought a Maclaren buggy from e-bay to last for the summer and we will try and get funding for a Major. Thank you for your kind offer.
