Does anyone else dread getting school reports?

It just brings it home to me how much DS struggles. His reports always seem depressing with very little in the way of anything positive. I can't help feeling envious of my friends when they boast about their childrens glowing reports.

Yes me! Big brown envelope came through today. Heart sunk but it was OK as it was stuff about half day release at college so phew.

I used to hate them when dd was at junior school. Didn't matter how hard she tried, didn't matter what her results were, it was all about her "absenteeism". Noone ever suggested that turning up at school 63% of the time when you are exhausted and in pain might be something of an achievement, or that even half-decent results under those circumstances might be something to celebrate.

But school has changes; they are much more on the ball with ds, and I think I'll be able to use his report when I meet up with the SENCO in the autumn.

Frankly if they had written "and she always brings in her PE kit" it would have felt the same as what they did actually write. Apparently lots of enthusiasm for music, PE & art

Dd1(AS) had her first school report this week, i was as it was great, it even said she was great at gymnastics. Inside the envelope was a letter saying she's going up to class 2 in September (only 7 of them are going up, the classes are mixed, only 4 classes in the whole school).

I'm not looking forward to dd2 (ASD) getting her first report when she starts school as she will struggle a lot more than dd1.

I really felt it this year with DS2. He got an excellent one from his SN school that outlined everything he CAN do, and we were so proud. Then we got his one from MS school, and it just highlighted everything he CAN'T do. Was really upsetting.

I'm dreading next years one when he is solely in MS

Yes...particularly at secondary when it is just grades on reports. It's a pointless exercise anyway ...they are comparing him against nt peers.
A '3' = 'inconsistent'.........it's the cop out grade for anyone teaching anyone with Aspergers i reckon!.
Errrm yep...inconsistency...yep aspergers will do that
I tend to ignore them and just wait for review time when the teachers write a detailed report about how he copes in lessons.
