Thats how ds was descibed to me by lea , we got turned down by panel for the sn school as ds does not meetthe critera even the sn school admitted they would struggle to placve ds in approtiate class

he has verbal and oral dyspraxic so is non verbal and uses makton , with his receptive being at 2.7 when tested
he is 4, has global delay functions around 2 - 2.6 most areas but does know his basic colours and numbers to 5 but due to th hypertonia and hypermoblity struggles with the gross and fine motor controll cant hold penci in correct grip

the s school was planning on placing him in their asd base due to needing makton and pecs but also admitted he does not show signs of Asd paticulary , is sociable happy little boy so looks like were going be left with ms with support but how on earth hes going cope in a talking world

Are the teachers and assistants at MS makaton and PECS trained? Have you been to see them? Have you had a meeting with the head and discussed your concerns (in other words spelt it out clearly what you actually want and ask if they are willing to accomodate that)? Is your DS going into Nursery or 'reception' (is it P1/P2, or F1/F2)?

I have just spent the last week harranging anyone in connection with DS5's education: Ed Psych, Inclusion, SALT, burser (for his funding), Head of LEA (re statementing, or lack thereof ), his teachers and assistants.

I am slightly more relieved and the hassle of chasing everyone has paid off. DS5 now has a delegated inclass support (the head wouldnt be drawn into calling her a 1:1), who will be directly responsible for just DS5, his IEP, his safety, and home/school dialogue. All his teachers have been having makaton training in lunch hour (at least 2 sessions that Im aware of), DS5 doesnt use PECS, as he found the pics more of a reward than the item he wanted so it really wasnt working. I have also arranged a "20 min" slot on the Admin day (the day before school starts) to discuss DS5's strengths and weaknesses and how to get the best out of him, with all who are involved with him.

Getting your DS this help at MS doesnt rule out continuing to fight to get him into the school that you feel is right for him. Im certainly still fighting for a statement, even tho in effect DS5 has the support that the statement would get him.

ds is going into reception he will have a ft 1-1 and statment states that everyone must be makaton trained in the school and pecs trined properly not by someone in 5 mins.as well as daily salt and ot programs and minium of 2 visits a term by salt

but do worry he was at playschool without statement but did get ft suppport

but its just how he is going to cope in class of 28 children and they not even identifed yet who is lsa going to be , there will be a teacher , class lsa , a lsa for another little girl who hs 2o hrs plus ds lsa

yeah took him 10 days in hospital to recover still not himself yet but looks like ds1 coming down with and dd

aww im so sorry to hear about others coming down with it as well, must be such a worry

Have they mentioned what strategies and techniques they are going to use to help transition to full time? Is that its going to be full time instead of just half days thats worrying you? perhaps when you've had a chance to chat to his TA, and tell her how she needs to be with him - ie what calms him and how to tell if hes stressed, maybe that will help?

trouble is they not even appointed his ta yet !!! let alone had training

the ntkids do 1 week till 12 the week 2 till 1pm then full days but they are willing to let ds do 1/2 days for longer only good thing is he has his friends from preschool in with him and a couple have learnt basic signs

im now thinking to look if theres any schools in uk that use signing all the time even though means dragging the other kids away frm their schools

just can not see how its going to work
