Dyspraxia & bedwetting

Is there a connection?
Just at the end of my tether with constant washing of bedlinen.
DD is just 4 and I don't think it will help to make a big fuss, but would love a solution

I'd put her back in nappies/nightime pants for now, personally. 4 isn't that old yet to be bedwetting in any case. (One of my NT 4yos is still not dry at night)

My 7yo with dyspraxia has all sorts of toileting issues, and our OT did tell us that whatever you can see on the outside is likely to be affected on the inside too, so there probably is a link. They also said that with therapy and building up core bodily strength they thought that would help, but not quite sure how!

I agree that 4 isn't that old for bedwetting but unless it's every night I would probably not use pullups as I've found they can delay nighttime dryness longer.

Have you tried putting lots of layers on the bed with protection between so you can just strip off one sheet at a time IYKWIM.

I used a betwetting alarm with my daughter when she was about 7 and it was an amazing success. (she has global developmental delay)

Both Ot & chiropractor are working on core/pelvic stability at the moment so maybe we will see a difference
She HATES pullups and fights not to wear them, then usually takes them off when I leave the room!

My DS has definite dyspraxic tendencies though not formally DX'd dyspraxic - he is nearly 5 and still in a pullup at night. He is now dry 95-98% of the time but still the occasional accident. At 4, we were still getting a lot of wet pullups.

I was told by HV and GP that they do not worry about bedwetting until a child is 7...

If she hates the pullups have you tried lifting her before you go to bed to see if that makes any difference? To be honest a lot of 4/5 year old children I know are still regularly lifted to do a wee late in the evening to avoid the chance of a wet bed the following morning!

Yes! It is a sensory issue. DS's friend (7) stopped doing it after 4 days of brushing. Can you see an OT? I know I bang on about it (the brushing that is) but it is having such a big effect on my DS.

that's interesting about the brushing - we did do it for quite a long time but stopped as she had made so much progress and had no tactile issues.... and now we do massage of specific areas as prescribed by the chiropractor
Maybe I should be doing both ( bad, bad, neglectful mother...)
She is such a light sleeper and always wake s- I will trying taking her to the loo at midnight or so which is usually the first time she gets up

I am wondering the same. Dd has all the symptoms of dyspraxia, some very pronounced. She also wets the bed every night even though she is now nearly 6yo.

It was a big relief when I found out that it was all connected, because for some reason I didn't connect. I might look into the brushing thing, cita.
