ds signed for orange told him ok he went got one then signed for me to open it but uses sign for open door for it had to laugh was tempted to knock on orange ask if anyone in

. DS2 uses 'open' for absolutely everything he needs help with but can't find the word for. So we have
'open' while pulling at jumper (take it off)
'open' while pointing to a stone (throw it in water)
'open' while struggling to put on socks, etc etc.

glad its not just ds does this seems he uses it as sign or help hmm wonder ifthere is sign for help

Well we use Somerset Total Communication signing, so may not be the same as Makaton, but our sign for help is right hand in fist with thumb up, tapping on left hand open palm.

I think the confusion may come from the 'p' sound in both words - but also that at their age, a lot of the time they need 'help' to 'open' stuff
