What should i do about his school, please help

my ds is 6 and has global development delay, he is about half his age and less in some areas. we moved to a new area last july and ds started a new school he had a statement of 27 and a half hours which his new school slashed to 19 and a half, i was told i could do nothing about it, i know now that i could have but its to late now. anyway we feel he has made little progress, and the head lies about everything and never listens to us, there have been a number of accidents since being here, 3 in 3 weeks, last one was yesterday he ended up in a and e, and 2day has 2 black eyes and the biggest lump ever, i cant trust this school but there is no point moving schools as there are no more in walking distance and they break up next month, and we wil b moving to a diff area, would u take him out or carry on sending him.

Have you sorted out a school for when you move and is it very far away from where you are now? If it is within a reasonable distance for travel (usually LEAs say up to 1 hour journey away) then is there any chance your son could start a transition there? The LEA should provide transport.

The current school sounds dreadful and there are real safety issues for him. Have you tried advice from IPSEA or SOS:SEN?

My daughter has GDD and has just moved schools. This was the result of a 2 year battle with the LEA. We had the same problem with a head teacher who lied and refused to listen to us.

I thought the statement was a legally obliging document and the school had to adhere to the terms ? have you contacted SEN SOS or IPSEA for advise?

not sure on what area we are moving to yet, just somewhere with a better educational system. and we want to find a nicer area for the kids. i really just dont know whether to trust them for the last month of term, in case something bad happens, he hasnt got the greatest of balance and they know this, but they seem to treat him like a normal boy of 6, which is so unhelpful as its confusing 4 him cos he doesnt understand.

if it was a new lea they should have reassessed his needs - is this what happened and they decided to cut his hours?

what is his TA/LSA doing that allows him to have so many 'accidents'? have they all been properly documented? have you seen the notes in the accident book at school?

i would make an appointment to see the class teacher, senco and TA/LSA at the same time. i would ask them honestly to explain to you whether they believe they are meeting your son's needs, and what they believe needs to be done.

if you can have a sensible discussion with them (try not to get emotional about it - easier said than done, i know) and you are happy, leave him there for 3 weeks whilst you try to sort out where he will be in september. if you have lost confidence in their ability to safeguard him (notwithstanding the educational credentials) then i would document your feelings in a letter to the lea before you remove him.

tis only 3 weeks, but your actions now may have implications for next term, so be as cool as you can....

my son will be starting a statement in septemmber 29.5 hours a week, we live in kingsbury..
you have to stand your ground they cannot cut your statemnt..

caz - if you move lea, as the op has, ordinarily the new lea will uphold the old statement whilst they reassess themselves. they aren't actually under any legal obligation to uphold the statement at all, but in practice, most do until they have done their own.

it is only the original lea where the statement is a legally binding document.

i live in kingsbury london.. lovely area school very good, esp the one im tring to get my son in,, he just got 29.5 hours statement so fingers x it all helps.. house up for sale next door to me, come be my neighbou what areas are you looking at??,
