Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Why are there now both special needs education AND a special educational needs topics?

My ds has some special education needs (he is dyslexic). I would therefore post in the education section for advice about his SEN (and have got some great advice there in the past). My nephew and niece have severe learning disabilities. Their educational needs (and options) are radically different. I imagine the new area is a request from parents of children with disabilities to have a space to discuss thier specific educational needs/experiences, following on for other discussions. So an ofshoot of the special needs board, whereas the SEN section is an offshoot of education discussions.

I can't really see why it is a problem. If it's not used I imagine it will be removed.
