DS1 is having another MRI scan on thursday, this time on his spine. The hospital think he has some nerve damage to the lower part of his spine and this is why he isn't able to control his bowels. The results from the previous tests showed some nerve problems. Anyone know anything about this?

They may suspect tethered cord

Patients may also experience foot and spinal deformities, weakness in the legs, low-back pain, and scoliosis.

DS1 has all these problems, he has a dxd of spastic diplegia cerebral palsy, he has a slight curve in his spine

So according to the interview with that surgeon, this might be something that could help him regain bowel control. We've been through problems with ds1 and bowels and it was horrendous.

DS1 is 11 and its not nice for him. I feel really bad as we thought he was being lazy

It's a problem that is easily misunderstood by parents so don't be too hard on yourself. Fingers crossed this will help him out.

Just be aware that even if the surgery helps him regain control there may be a period of colon rehabilitation. That's what we went through with ds1 after getting the initial problem taken care of.
