i cant find my original thread regarding statement

anyway it was needing complete re write i sent back highlighted pages and lengthy letter saying what i wasn't happy with etc

well i phoned today as had nothing back and apparently am getting a re written statement sent out in next couple of days with the changes that i have asked for

so fingers crossed this one will make more sense and the changes will be right for him i can only hope

i was surprised no meeting was needed lets hope this one covers all his needs though the last thing i want to do is appeal it again

i had no idea he wouldn't go to same SALT he hasnt been given any SALT 1-1 at all and so needs this badly he has atypical speech production and will suffer to not continue getting help

just had a good cry when realised how bad this is without it

Hi Bubblagirl,

Do seek independent advice from one of the organisations I've mentioned. They can also help you. I don't live a million miles away from you and we're in the same LEA.

I have recently learnt that the list for Specialist SALT re social communication has been closed because the list is too blooming long!. Nice huh!. SALT provision in this part of the county anyway is pretty much dire and has been for years now.

You may have some luck with school re lunchtime support; depends also on how many midday assistants they have. I would certainly ask school and get any response in writing.

SALT should be in Part 2; if its not there then the LEA need insert this in that part of the Statement. Again further advice should be sought here.

Are any of the TA's or assistant at Bubblaboy's school ASD trained?. I would certainly be asking about this as well and have this put in the Statement.

You are your son's best - and only - advocate. Never forget that.

With best wishes

Phoenix - the 2nd version sounds a lot better, good luck with getting all you want in re:training etc

Bubbla - sorry they are still not offering the right support. As Attila says, time to get some outside independent help with it now. In terms of SALT - it depends on how things work locally - in my area DS had same SALT after he started school - but obv your area may be different.

Phoenix4725 · 06/06/2009 20:46

in north east essex you come under salt as in lea funded so pretty cra

bubblagirl · 07/06/2009 06:44

isee what they have done now they have in communication in part 2 made him sound like he speaks independently with some unclear speech sounds where in reports it staes his atypical speech means he needs support at all times as his speech is unintelligible at times and he needs help to speak to peers ata ll times

they have played it right down making him sound like an independent speaker who can be unclear not a child that doesn't speak without support so this needs to be changed completely

im using big words such as misrepresenting his actual needs and denying him the rightful help is discriminative to his disability and his right to function within the school

you going rewrite or ask for meeting ,I took ds to meeting figured now that hes actually person now in their eyes rather than a name.also had loads of stuff with me an dphtocopied rvlent bits and handed them out

might be worth phtocopying report and then sending it in underlined

bubblagirl · 07/06/2009 07:57

thats what im going to do im photo copying all the parts that state he needs support to talk etc that his speech is unclear and unintelligible , that he needs ongoing SALT that his needs are continuous with speech i didnt realise how downplayed it was in part 2 hence no SALT in part 3 they have made him look too able in part 2

why cant these people just do there job properly i thought if i can throw in about his rights as and autistic child to function fully within the school with the right help and they are discriminative to his disability for not representing it correctly maybe they might listen this time

i'll just have to keep on until it gets put right

they think with their wallet and bloody tick sheets Ds came out as complex needs on their first tick scoring but next time round they moved him up to severe hence the full time might bwe worth asking where he falls on the sheet becaus ethats what allows the hours

extra needs
addtional needs,
complex nees
sever needs

and these controll amount of support they offer

bubblagirl · 07/06/2009 08:16

if they re write communication truthfully then he should be entitled to more but they have made him sound too able when his not so im going to fight for that then he'll probably move up slightly were only 7 hrs out of full help so if they write the speech correct should enable him more help i just need to be able to get my point across

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 07/06/2009 13:13

well round 3 i have written a nice long letter again with evidence of his communication problems through out reports and also SALT recommendation of SALT either in school or at clinic and pediatrician saying he still needs SALT

so lets hope this time they will listen and amend part 2 and then part 3 accordingly wish us luck i have my fighting head on now didnt sleep a wink last night through worry and feel relieved to have written letter and got it all enveloped up ready to go tomorrow as i only got 7 days this time from date of letter and it was dated the day before it was sent so i was 2 days down when it arrived

will let you know outcome of this one

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 08/06/2009 07:45

well im sending it all back today so wish us luck im aiming for the speech therapy part a si know he still needs this as he doesn't speak as other 4 yr olds do he has limited speech sounds so can be so unclear so im not allowing no SALT at all when he starts school so im fighting as far as i need to go now

he'll never learn how to talk correctly if they stop helping him now

bubblagirl · 08/06/2009 12:23

have received the letter to say they the lea have received my letter and are now dealing with it

have also spoke to speech therapist who will speak to the one who wrote my report so she may be able to write to them and tell them the consequences of not having speech therapy or direct contact anyway with a speech therapist will do

misscutandstick · 11/06/2009 19:42

good luck!!!

let us know how the next one goes.

I was wondering how the letter arrives actually. DS5's yay or nay on the assessment for statementing should arrive tomorrow - it will be 6wks to the day that i asked for statementing. (wow thats gone quick! ) anyway i was wondering how the letter arrives, will it be just normal post? dont suppose they will spend extra money to tell me they've refused me will they? I have a few things to do and could do without waiting in for it. If its just normal post then its not a prob.

misscutandstick · 12/06/2009 07:34

anyone?

bubblagirl · 12/06/2009 08:20

mine is just popped through door no signing needed i just recommend that you get yours recorded when sending to them so you can be sure it has arrived and when so you don't get the we haven't got it or its left on bottom of pile saying its not here yet

good luck

OP posts:
misscutandstick · 12/06/2009 17:13

well it arrived this morning...

hey guess what?

its been declined didnt really expect anything else TBH. Still its a pain having to play that whole game. I understand that my child could be anybody (but hes not, hes mine, hes special, and he needs a bit more help), but they dont know that he will just run off, or empty stuff, pull over the water table, drink the paint, and eat the little people.

ah well, onward onward. next is the fight for the assessment then.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 12/06/2009 17:18

misscutandstick

Am sorry to read this but you must appeal their crass decision (says she who has been rejected twice before the LEA finally gave in!) not to assess.

magso · 12/06/2009 17:20

So sorry! Happens to the best of us! ((Hugs))

misscutandstick · 12/06/2009 21:30

thanks guys, gonna re-group over the weekend and start again on Monday.

Assuming best place to start is the ipsea "been refused to assess" bit?

Actually, ed psych is coming to see us on 19th (DS4 & DS5) June. Should i wait until after that to start appeal? Im thinking if she could state that she feels he could do with assessment that it will help the appeal?

misscutandstick · 12/06/2009 21:37

forgot to mention the reason they gave for refusal: 3pages summed up in as many sentences....

that he is young and he might cope fine and learn well with the 'provision' they have in place. And perhaps wait to see how he does. after all he can manage a few words in makaton.!?!

He has MLD, non-verbal, autistic, GDD, and as is with these things, the concentration span of a gnat and as much understanding as one too. but fun, loveable & affectionate and a cutey!

bubblagirl · 13/06/2009 07:40

so sorry to hear this time to put fighting head on and kick there asses

i cant believe they would refuse it but it doesn't surprise me good luck with the appeal keep us informed with how you get on xx

OP posts:
AttilaTheMeerkat · 13/06/2009 10:43

Misscutandstick,

Would put in appeal asap. Your LEA's reasons for refusal to assess are appalling as well as penny pinching.

IPSEA's pages are useful in that regard as well.
