I believe my son need additional help. He is currently being assessed for Asperger's syndrome. He is above average but bottom of his class and almost bottom of he's year. He can not concertrate without constant prompting...Ive heard it is hard to get a statement and was wondering if anyone had got any advice as to really push for one. I fear he will leave school with no qualifications when clearly he is intelligent enough to have them.

Hi, my dd1 is only 7 so I may not be much help but

what do school say? is he currently on school action plus?

If school are not very helpful (maybe he is quiet in class and is not causing them any problems) you can apply for a statement yourself - I think it is IPSEA or maybe ACE that has the sample letters.

Success partly depends what LEA you are in as well I think.

Bumping so hopefully someone more experienced will see

Good luck!

PS have you thought about home ed.

can school offer any extra help out there own budget in meantime? do they have genuine concerns could you meet with the school senco to see if any additional help can be given?
