Do you qualify for capped water bills?

& if so which conditions allowed you to qualify.
I've just rang for the forms as our water bill is in & couldn't believe how much we are using.
DS2 is bathed every morning as its always been the best way to stretch him plus the extra washing etc.
Not to mention the extra window cleaning after he's licked them
This is all on top of the normal family usage.

Hope you don't mind me asking but the woman on the phone seemed to think it was only skin conditions but I'm sure i've read on here in the past that some of you lo's qualify for other conditions.

So far have resisted all attempts to get us to switch to water meter .$ kids my bills would be

Phoenix, you also automatically qualify if you ahve 3 or more under 16 & the bill is capped at £160 per year with Essex & suffolk, so if you apy more than that it may be worth switching.

Thanks 2Shoes, ds2 has mild CP & ASD. I'm sure our GP would write a letter but I usually ahve to tell him what to write IYKWIM.

How do you find out if you are entitled to capped water rates in the area you live?

Graciefer · 19/05/2009 20:37

I am with South West Water and are on the social tariff due to DS1's ASD.

We were using £100+ a month on the water meter, this is now capped to £480 a year.

Like anon, you can also qualify for this tariff if you have 3 children under 18 living with you.

Graciefer · 19/05/2009 20:47

I telephoned my water company and asked if they did a social/disability tariff and when they said yes, I asked them to send me an application form.

I also did the same for my electric and gas, both of which I am now on social tariffs (British Gas and EDF).

jennybensmummy · 20/05/2009 13:35

oh didnt know you could get it on gas and electric too, which companies do it graciefer?

we get it for water, ben is autistic and has a major thing with water and constantly got taps on and washing his hands etc also due to smearing, messy eating, being sick due to sensory issues with so many foods, we had a lovely paed about a year ago who did it for us and wrote a fab letter i didnt think we would get it but we did, it runs out soon and since she left we dont have a permanent paed so unlikely to get it again but dont think we use so much now so hopefully wont be affected too much fingers crossed!

Is that 3 or more children or 3 or more children all with a disability, to qualify?

jennybensmummy · 20/05/2009 14:22

in our area its 3 or more children, dont have to have a disability at all

mumwhereareyou · 20/05/2009 20:41

We are with Anglian Water and they don't cap at all, but if three or more children they have a social tariff for you. Which has made it a bit cheaper but would be even better if it could be capped especially if we are to a heatwave this summer, like they are talking about.
