what does this mean and what will it tell us about DS. He has a DX of ASD and ODD and this is the first assessment he has had since being DXed in Aug last year. The Psych has not really told me what it is etc so thought i would ask on here.
have been told it can take up to 90 mins (ds did 40 mins last week and has to go back to complete on tues)
DS says he played games!

I imagine it's some sort of intelligence testing. DS had a few non-verbal intelligence tests at 4, he had to copy patterns and indicate a similar object.

i did wonder if it was IQ test but how will this help DS?

I guess to pick up not only if he has problem areas, but any areas that lag behind - I think ASD can often cause a bit of a spiky profile iyswim with some areas being loads better than others.

we know DS is brilliant at maths and written word and reading etc performing at nearly age 11 (he is 9 in july) but in spoken word and emotional and social he is age 4.

I think these are usually completed by educational pschologists and look at verbal IQ and performance IQ. Basically giving a learning profile and is often taken into consideration when thinking about potential school placement or preparing a statement of special educational needs. It should give an idea of his learning potential.

the performance IQ activities are not language dependant so if there are any communication difficulties without general learning difficulties then the performance score should be better.

It sounds good that your DS thought he was playing games! Generally a comprehensive report follows assessment and should explain what was carried out and why.
