My son's learning ability is above average but he is bottom of the league because he can not concerntrate, he may be aspergers.I worry for him as I feel if he had someone there to prompt him he would do well but he is in main stream school and they just move him on to one class to the other( he is in secondary school) I feel the education system will let him down as he needs to be taught in a different way.

have you discussed your concerns with his form tutor or the school learning support staff? does he get any additional help and support currently?

Well he is on school action plus, he has pastrol support, psp, meetings with connex, involved with CAHMS , pediatrician and refered to a ed psychologist.....but in the meantime is losing out and im beginning to feel main stream will not give him what he needs , he will have poor results because of his inability to do what everyone else is doing in class.

what has his paed suggested? for concentration issues an OT referral in conjunction with trialling meds for 'inattentive' adhd helps some children... not sure exactly how old he is or if any of this has been tried before...
what are his current targets on his iep? what support is in place to help him meet them? does he have access to a quiet space (eg learning support common room) to regroup and take a breather if he needs to? are they giving him support to keep his planner up to date and helping him with coping strategies for organisation? do you have a routine in place that ensures his homework is clearly described and expectations noted so that he can understand what is required?

Hi, my dd1 (5.2) has AS, at the moment she is doing well at school (a year ahead of her class mates) but i worry as her concentration isn't great and i can see it being a problem in the future. At the moment her teacher is being great but as she grows up and has different/less understanding teachers and bigger classes this may change.
