Who is our first port of call if we think that one of our children has Aspergers or HFA please?

I should imagine that the first thing you should need to do is to go see your GP and air your concerns. Your GP should be able to refer on to a paediatrician.

This is what is happening with my son anyway, though my lad has been referred cos of behaviours which I suspect are more tourettes/ocd/adhd.

Good luck.

how old is the child? ds1 is 5, we started with our gp, they refferred him to developmental paed, then to a behaviour specialist, school reffered to educational psychologist...we dont have a dx yet, but thats how we got to where we are now.

I went to my gp, who referred us to Camhs [child and adolescent mental health service. It was straight forward from there. My child was in a private school, who recommended I see a private educational psychologist, which I couldn't afford, so my gp did the referral for me.
hope someone else comes along soon and gives you more advice, and good luck.

Yup, as has been said, GP to do a referral to a developmental paediatrician. They're the ones who are the main specialists for this for children.

What's concerning you? I'd love to hear more?

i went to gp who referred us to camhs. They (after initial assessments) then moved us through to a team resposible for diagnosing Autistic spectrum disorders. Once we got a dx from them they referred us back over to another dept who diagnosed dypraxia also.

good luck
