My dd can no tmake friends and is generally "odd". She now has an appointment with the educational psycologist to assess her ?asperger's (she ticks most of the boxes). I'm confused about the procedure. Everyone here seesm to be talkig about pedeatricians - will the ed psy refer her to a pedeatrician? Can someone tell me how the process usually works please? We have also been referred to the family advisory service for my son who is very difficult to control - a lady came round to assess him and asked me if I'd heard of Asperger's so I guess that he must display some characteristics - she said that she needed to "feed back" but we have heard nothing - how do the family adviory local team fit in to it all? Should we be going to teh doctors rather than through these people with our son and the school with our daughter? Thanks in advance,

The Ed Psych is I think more about what help your DD would need at school. The paed tends to be from a different department (eg Health, not Education) and gives a diagnosis. In my case, the paed came first but if your route in is through the school then it's just coming to you differently. I think you might separately go to the GP and ask for a referral to a paediatrician, as a diagnosis can help (eg the school and others will see she has SEN, if she in fact does, rather than just being naughty or "different"), I do not know what the Family Advisory service is - did they come via school?? Are they from social services or Health (look up on council website maybe?). With your son too, you could ask GP for a referral. Sorry not being much help, but tbh all these different people are v confusing for everyone, and it doesn't help that NONE of the different depts ever ever talk to each other!! Good luck!
