We applied for a statement for DS 4, ASD, in Dec 08 and are waiting for the draft statement to be written. It was due to be written on 17th April but we were told that because the paeds advice was given in late (by 2 weeks) that the draft statement will now be late but they couldn't give me a expected time on it. We want to send DS1 to special school as the ASD nursery he currently attends has no reception places.

We have to accept or reject the local MS primary school place we have been offered by Friday. We do not want DS in a MS school but until the statement is finalised we cant get a place at the special school we want.

Should I accept the MS place? Is there anything I can do to hurry the statementing process along because we are worried that there wont be any paces at the special school by the time its done.

I only know of one way get ur health visitor + doctor, + if pos the ed phsyc to help u, they can tell the statement panel to hurry it up as it is urgent, + u get on the phone 2 them + dont stop til u get what u want, even if they look over it + contact the school 4 u, if that fails, get ur local cllr involved, they may be able to help, just make ur voice heard, cos if u stay quiet they will 4 get u, + remember to them its all about money, + to us its about our the welfare + wellbeing of our children.

Hi,

I don't know if this is the case everywhere, but we were told that special school applications ran parallel to mainstream applications. In other words, accepting the mainstream place doesn't mean you can't then accept a special school place once your statement is through --the essential bit is that the statement names the special school.

Ours was a secondary application, though, so maybe a bit different.
