Strattera? What is it like?

They want to put my ASD/ADHD 8 year old on this drug. I cannot seem to find that much info about it other than wikipedia.

Does anyone else have a child on this drug? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Tis quite good. It is a 24 hour drug and it didn't have the weight loss thing as much as the Ritalinesque Equasym that he'd tried before. My boy is 7 and also ADHD and autism. It's not been a magic cure, but concentration etc. are definitely better.

Thanks. I am a wreck about starting him on any medication. But the equasym 30mg did nothing at all and he had no side effects so it was like he wasn't taking anything.

Yeah, hated the idea of meds. But when he had to stop the Straterra last year because he was ill, we REALLY noticed the difference, so it's obviously doing something.

Dd2 tried this for a while, but we stopped as her apetite was so poor she was eating and drinking basically nothing. When the Neuro Psych went to visit her at school he was so concerned about her lack of drinking/eating that he suggested we stop as the cons outweighed the pros.

The drug did improve her concentration, but it tended to wear off by about 1.30-2 ish.

We had the same with Ritalin. DD1 is not on medication at the moment. (other than sodium valproate for her epilepsy)

Sorry DD1 not DD2! Finger slipped there!

I just noticed that if you go into Amber's link (Sunday's date) about girls and aspergers; then go into the adhd section (and keep going!) there are links to the different types of medication that treat adhd - Straterra is one of them as are all the others.
