Aspergers schools in Oxford

Hi people. Just wondering if anyone knows of schools in Oxford that are good for Aspergers children. My DS is only 4 but I'm starting to panic and want to know what our options are. We're waiting for a paed assesment(JR Hospital)and his pre-school are doing the best he can but all the other kids are starting to make friends and have playdates (oh god oh god) and my DS is just so different (e.g.won't go outside at playtime) and it's hard to see when all the others are skipping about being 'normal' (how I hate that word now).
Anyway, will stop waffling. I just wish I had a crystal ball and I think it's hit me that we're at the start of a very long road. Thanks in advance.

Support group for AS/ASD for Oxfordshire is OASIS.

There are various other support groups which are scattered around the county. PM me and I might be able to help.

ARe you thinking of ms or special schools or asd units? There are the 2 units attached to ms schools mentioned and I have heard that a 3rd might be starting soon. You will need a statement to get into those.

If you get a dx, and your child is in ms, I think Autism Outreach will come in and provide support or you can request that. The advice given above is good - go and visit schools and you will know how inclusive they are and how much support your ds is going to get.

How supportive is your pre-school? Ours helped us get a statement by writing a great report and ds started school with 30 hours 1 to 1 support on their recommendation. Unfortunately school dropped that to 25 hrs in Yr 1.

Don't be fobbed off by them. We were told we did not need a statement by Pre-School Counsellor but I insisted and we got it.

I have also heard from an ABA consultant that Oxfordshire are funding their own ABA programmes for under 5s - have not checked that out yet though but it might be worth your looking into it.
