Its ds2's SN school review today. Got a list of questions a mile long! Lets hope its a good one. I hate these. The EP, SALT and SN teacher will be there as well as the head teacher, and I always feel like I'm being interviewed

Aaaargh it was a nightmare!!! As nice as the teachers, SALT and EP were, I still felt like I was banging my head against a brick wall.

They said the following:

-His language has come on realy well. His SALT cored him and he was borderline whatever (sorry cant remember)
-His physical developement, fine motor skills are way below average, possible dyspraxia (as I thought) or developementa delay and I'm to make an appointment with his paed.
-He is busy being statemented so I need to write a strong ltter s to why I don't want him to go in to an ARC placement, which EP thinks they will suggest
-Possibly doing half days at SN school and half days MS school from Sept might not be allowed. So what are the options? MS school!!!
-On a good point, his MS school are going to increase his sessions by one day a week, purely for social interaction.

My head is done in!! DH couldn't make the meeting as had to work so went it alone

I left feelig like I was going to have to prepare myself for the long battle with eucation that lies ahead.

I'm sorry it was such a diffcult meeting. MS may not be such a bad option if you have a school that is proactive and flexible, and he is properly supported by his statement. However none of these things are guaranteed.

I feel for you - I am struggling to decide on local mainstream or a resource base for my 5 year old as we go through our annual review. On balance, mainstream is still our preferred place. I don't think there is ever a perfect 'fit' for our ASD kids

Focus on writing your submission for his statement - we found that the LEA placed a lot of weight on our opinions and concerns.
This is the first step, and then take each hurdle one at a time rather than feeling overwhelmed by the whole battle.

Best wishes
