I just thought of starting this thread to tell you a little about me besides my ranting & stress on here, and learn a little about you too.

Thought it would be nice to say stuff about my life besides the saga of getting DS help.

So... I have 10 animals. I have 4 degus, 4 rabbits, 2 cats. They are all stupidly well looked after and any info you need about degus or rabbits come my way! I am an avid reader, I read shitloads of history books. Really I read aristocratic women's history books, fiction & non fiction. I have a very strong obsession with many of these women. DH tells me I should replace the word "very" with "fucking" but I think that is a bit too crass in this instance.

I love Star Trek. I have seen every single ST episode except the shitty one with Scott Backula. And I just recently decided that I am going to become an amateur specialist orchid grower. I only have one very interesting orchid right now but I plan on adding to it soon. I do loads of art & crafts with DS and on my own, I even had a series of paintings for sale in an art gallery before xmas but none sold. (poo)

It is a proven fact that on my Dad's side of the family Alexander Selkirk who Robinson Crusoe was based on is my ancestor. I also have ancestors I think I know of but wont mention as I will look like a loon! LOL I love Vienna. And on that note I shall fuck right off as they say here on MN as you are all probably bored to tears.

But please do tell me about yourselves! I really want to know!

hereidrawtheline · 03/03/2009 22:44

i like errr... cutting and stickin paper . shiny/twinkly paper is the best invention ever!!!

we have 2 snakes - easiest pets ever to look after!

we are also into sci-fi as a family, anything with 'star' or 'x' in the title will do, but Dr Who, Red Dwarf, Heroes, Lost, Reaper, tru calling, ghost whisperer, smallville and Santuary all feature in 'top 10' too, dont really like the soaps that much, they're too depressing.

And i look forward to a celebratory small bar of choccy and glass of coke at the end of the day for surviving it!

TotalChaos · 04/03/2009 07:52

replace "historical fiction" with crime fiction and crime fiction in translation LOL. I do some book reviews for the eurocrime blog (www.eurocrime.co.uk).

troutpout · 04/03/2009 08:03

i like to laminate

Frasersmum123 · 04/03/2009 08:09

hereidrawtheline · 04/03/2009 09:27

TotalChaos this is kind of historical crime fiction but have you read the Woman in White? I love it!

Parent a non SN , look after 2 cats, gardening, reading, drinking wine ( new 9% range from Tescos in a desperate attempt to be healthier). Alexander Selkirk ! That reminds me of his home village - Lower Largo where I used to go as a child. Beautiful beaches, cute little Fishermens' cottages. Any chance of inheriting a family property there ? We could all visit !

TC Have just finished reading 'The Monster of Florence' about the serial killing in Florence obviously , not fiction unfortunately for the victims but a fascinating read.

TotalChaos · 04/03/2009 10:06

cyber - that's on my list to read, one of the police in that investigation, Michele Giuttari, has written a couple of crime fiction detective books.

hereI - must confess not, Wilkie Collins is another on my (endless!) LOl list.

silverfrog · 04/03/2009 10:16

sadly, not enough

In my alternate life, I go to ballet classes, swim regularly, and have lovely lunches out with friends.

In reality, i cannot do the classes as fh is never back in time to lok after the girls, swim occasionally, but dd2 has taken against the gym creche, so it's a bit tricky at the moment, and have just moved house so no friends to lunch with.

Howver, i am currently looking into ways to get back to uni, which our move has made easier - won't be this year, but maybe soon!

Other than that, i read. A lot.

And also take plasure in laminating things for dd1 - photobooks are my speciality, and we have several of recent holidays/weekends away/days out. I am also very proud of dd1 copy of "tiddler" (her comfort object for a long while) which I laboriuosly copied/reduced/laminated so she had a miniature version to take with her when she needed it.

We have 1 dog (staffie bull), i like going to boot-sales and get bargains. Dh and i like antiques and collectibles, dh works in the antique trade and i am a SAHM, i trained to be a chef after leeving school and have worked in a few hotels and posh pubs.

I don't really get out much but i enjoy going for a drink with friends.

I find the weather really interesting and i study it each day by looking at all the forcasts on the net (i think this is one of my AS traits as i am obsessed with the weather), my dream would be to got storm chasing in the US .

I enjoy taking my dog for a walk and photography (i tend to do them both at the same time).

I live in Dorset and i look at myself as being very lucky to live in such a beautiful place.

cyberseraphim · 04/03/2009 10:40

Michele Giuttari

He's not a popular figure in the new book - He got the two authors arrested and one of them suspected of being the monster ! But it's all very Italian and convuluted. They have all written many novels, I think the Monster has spawned writing careers for many !

TotalChaos · 04/03/2009 10:58

ah didn't realise he has such a erm controverial role in the case. If you are interested in further convolutions of the Italian legal system, I would highly recommend "The Fugitive" by Massimo Carlotto, it's autobiographical.

TotalChaos · 04/03/2009 11:00

review here :- www.eurocrime.co.uk/reviews/The_Fugitive_2.html

madmouse · 04/03/2009 11:15

I have a part time job as lawyer/manager in a law centre for immigrants

I have a clergyman for a husband, full time job plus it makes me a vicar's wife with such joys as preaching on world women's day of prayer this Friday

I love cycling, listening to loads of music and singing. And as dh is out every evening (or at least 5 a week) and tot is in bed upstairs I spent an insane amount of time chatting on facebook while I should be cleaning . Big house, lost cause

TotalChaos · 04/03/2009 11:20

/thud yet another lawyer LOL - there are quite a few of us on here who are/used to be lawyers!

madmouse · 04/03/2009 11:27

You need to be one seeing how hard some of you need to fight for your kids

But I am innocent. Only do asylum/immigration/human rights, honest guv.

madmouse · 04/03/2009 11:30

Marne

Do you think my obsession with maps and not resting until I have found and explored every path, alleyway and dismanteld railway in my neighbourhood is an AS trait or just eccentric? Or sad

glitteryb6 · 04/03/2009 11:34

oooh here i draw the line i too am related to Alexander Selkirk on my mothers side tho!!! gosh we must be related!!!

Also on my mothers side, Johnny Thomson, very famous Celtic goalkeeper of yesteryear.

Apart from that i like a bit of 70s & 80s rock and also 70s disco

read a lot of archeological/biblical/historical type fiction and watch far too much tv of the CSI/Law & Order and ER/House type variety.

geekgirl · 04/03/2009 11:37

Am I allowed to join the SN law gang? I'm a magistrate so a bit of a fake really.

Other than that I do some legal translating to pay for holidays in the Eurozone and I'm a parent governor and do quite a lot of stuff for the school in that regard.

I like to read - fiction mainly at the moment, and dh and I usually plonk ourselves down in front of a TV series in the evening - we're currently working our way through the West Wing.

And we've just bought ourselves a motorhome, so I guess camping has to be added to our new hobbies . And we have chickens and a cat...

Frasersmum123 · 04/03/2009 11:45

Well I used to work as a Legal Admin assistant for a Civil Recovery company!

In RL I am a mum of three, I like reading, am a big fan of Martina Cole. I collect Emma Bridgewater Polka Dot stuff, so I am easy to buy for at Christmas. I am on my school PTA and I love watching Law and Order. I read tarot cards for my friends and I would love to get better at it.

hereidrawtheline · 04/03/2009 12:01

oooh frasersmum I so want my cards read!

And glitteryb6 that is so cool we are related!!!!! How bizarre!! I can dig out my family tree & tell you which way I am connected to him but we moved house last October & I havent seen it since then so it could take me a while! My sister has a copy though so I will sort it eventually!

I would love to have a motorhome though I would not like camping in a tent! But having a huge big posh break the bank motor home is one of my dreams!

silverfrog that is so sweet of you about 'tiddler' - you made me look it up as I hadnt heard of it.

Well we all seem to read a lot!

madmouse- i think most people have AS traits, i love maps too , i also love spotting strange license plate numbers on cars.

glitteryb6 · 04/03/2009 12:08

Not sure i have all the details myself to be honest...well it would go back a bit as Selkirk was born in 1676!
i know it was my mums fathers side who all hail from the Fife area but more than that id need to enquire amongst the older relatives

BriocheDoree · 04/03/2009 12:10

Well, I live abroad, so sometimes just the fact of being here is an adventure! (OK, so it's only France, but still...).
Try to do volunteer web programming to keep my hand in (you never know, might go back to work one of these days).
Look after my non-SN toddler.
I also love maps and license plates (particularly as in France they tell you where they are from so you can look out for the ones who've come from far away!) However, I only rated a 20 on that adult autism checklist thingy that someone posted the other day so I think that makes me fairly NT...
Read whatever English books I can get my hands on, esp. Anne McCaffrey.
I love to cook, too, which is probably why I get more rotund as the years go on!
Drink wine also, as it's dead cheap here. Food's good too!
