This is really shocking and it's hard to believe that such ridiculous people exist:

Mine both shouted it out to me today when Cerrie was doing some sort of physical excercise. My answer was that everyone is different - just like in Toddworld.

I'm glad they noticed too, think it shows signs of social awareness and interest in others - a great chance to shape their views of society etc...

DS is ASD but you can't immediately see his disability - not sure what they'd have made of it if she had ASD!

TallulahToo · 23/02/2009 21:35

OMG Riven - Sorry I just read your comments on TT! Shame on them for allowing these parents into their class!

Think they will hide their own children away if, (and I really don't wish this on them), their own child is disabled later? Nope, they'll be found at the nearest group complaining how unfair and bigotted society is!

drlove8 · 23/02/2009 22:11

riven tumbletots are shite anyway- its like crufts for babies!......wouldnt take my little monsters there...not in a million years!

ouryve · 23/02/2009 22:51

Mannymoeandjack - despite the little add on at the end, the whole viewpoint of the article is totally gossipy, as if it's saying "ooh, look what so and so thinks." Put into the context of typical daily mail fayre, it gives the impression of relishing the remarks made.

drlove8 · 23/02/2009 23:45

DMail is pathetic- best used for cat litter trays!

Maimee2704 · 24/02/2009 05:04

I think it's absolutely disgusting how some people have issues with Cerrie my daughter loves Alex and Cerrie and is in no way scared by her, she cries when Cbeebies does at 7pm shouting bye bye Cerrie and Alex, i hope these people are ashamed, it's not the kids with the issues it's them personally i don't think the kids would care if she had 3 arms or 2 heads as they don't judge people like adults do! I think they should just stop and learn from the kids everyone is different so deal with it!!

MannyMoeAndJack · 24/02/2009 07:51

'it gives the impression of relishing the remarks made' - not how I read it, but it's true that the DM does run a lot of gossipy articles (similar to women's weekly mags).

I guess it's good that this story has caused those silly parents to be roundly criticised though.

true, shite that people think they have a right to spout is disgusting! why isnt there laws (like the racism ones) that crack right down on the asreholes?, or is the general concensis that it doesnt matter as its aimed at the disabled so it doesnt matter- talk about kicking someone when there down!( personly i think these people need a good twating!)cerrie is fab! ...

drlove8 · 24/02/2009 09:26

good point about asd there!, but unfortunatly i know the answear to that to some degree, i work with a lovely bloke who is an aspie- the twats we work with have called him an arsehole to his face and behind his back! - the reason ?, wellhe has an emense knowledge of wines and spirits and can make any cocktail you can imagine!he can also tell anyone about every single whisky/malt we have in the hotel- as in how its made, where it comes from, what type of barrel is used. i think its amazing.... the nasty comments come from idiots who care not a jot about anything excedt what they look like, what phone they have, and what party they're going to next!im afraid for my dd4 and all the other SN kids. what a world we have to let them out into. i just want to wrap her in cotton wool and keep her with me, but i wont be around forever....

FairLadyRantALot · 24/02/2009 11:05

Hi,I hope it's o.k. to join into this discussion.

firstly, MMAJ...it , sadly, doesn't surprise me that your friends mum was asked somehting so stupid...I was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate, and my mum was told that I must have been born that way, because she must have been frightened by this guy that lived near by, who also had a cleft lip and palate.......I think it's some sort of old wives tale...

Riven ....what is wrong with people?

Anyway, I just saw the discussion about this on Wright Stuff...and my fucking god...unbelievable....! People complaining because someone is missing part of their arm...it is traumatising children...I mean, realllly....! People can be so fucking stupid...!

surprisenumber3 · 24/02/2009 11:35

I know how you feel Fair Lady, I am having to keep my DS1 away from the news at the moment as he has similar to Cerrie and I would hate for him to think children are going to be scared of him! He is 9 thankfully, but if I was a parent with a child about to start school I would be even more anxious than I was to start with.

As it is, no-one has ever been scared! We went to babygroups from when he was born, and yes, people looked and enquired but I never saw anyone scared by it!!

FairLadyRantALot · 24/02/2009 11:46

totally...
thing is, I can't see anything scary about it? I just can't...so...why is this giving their Kids nightmares...or so they say...I just don't get it....!

Oh and that woman on that panel of the wright stuff (just watching the re-run of the programme) is pissing me off...(not Connie Fisher , I may add...)....

surprisenumber3 · 24/02/2009 11:58

so if there was a child in their DC's class with similar, should they be taken out of school so as not to scare the other children? All my sons friends have ever wanted to do is help him. It's only been a couple of times in the park or such like that children have followed him around staring but he turned round and said 'yeah? so I have one hand, I was born like it, so what?'. And then they have left it!

surprisenumber3 · 24/02/2009 12:00

BTW, I was going to watch the Wright Stuff but I don't think I can bring myself too, BP is probably already too high just thinking about it!!

My friend's SIL is pregnant with her first baby and a cleft lip/palate has been diagnosed on scan, she is dealing brilliantly with it, she is truly not at all alarmed, but things like this are just going to make her worry unecessarily aren't they.

Gosh, some people are so ignorant!!

Kimi · 24/02/2009 12:11

As DS1 would put it a whole lot of ugly from a long line of stupid!!!!!!

Those with disabilities and their families end up with thicker skins to put up with the stares, rude questions etc - from my own experience anyway

FairLadyRantALot · 24/02/2009 14:22

well, short summary of the wright stuff...

the guy that stood in for Mathew Wright and Connie Fisher and the guy on the panel all said, out of order, try to challenge that sort of thinking...the other one, who I don't know who she is, but the apprentice was mentioned, so, could be famous because of that...said, she understands, and blablabla, and lots of people were thinking like that, but were to scared to say it out loud.
Phone in's some positive and a few ignorant callers, 1 young lad in the studio very positive and very intelligent and made an exellent point

This apprentice woman, she, in another context, used the word retard/retarded...and I was at that....apparently she thinks and is rated intelligent...but I have my doubts about that, tbh....
