Tourettes and Behaviour

My 8 year old daughter has been recently diagnosed with Tourettes Syndrome. The Professor who diagnosed her says it has been clinically proven that this can account for certain types of behavioural problems - impulsive aggressive type behaviour and reacting to seemingly trivial things in an over the top way. The behaviour is our major problem, the tics do not seem to be bothering her at the moment. Has anyone any experiences/advice with this?

No experience or advice to offer with Tourettes, just wanted to say I hope you start to get some support now that you have a diagnosis.

i dont have any advice for you im really sorry but i found this forum when i googled tourettes for you, its a scottish charity for tourettes, i hope its some help to you

J has lots of little tics but they come and go....sometimes he makes a clicking sound with his tongue over and over again....then he has a tut that he makes mid sentence. He pulls his bottom jaw really far out before talking.

He also has little twitches. No one has ever mentioned Tourettes to us but we know that it is a co-morbid condition of ASD.

They dont really affect J and they diappear as fast as they develop...although the tutting has been around for a little while now and it drives me bonkers!!!

My son is suspected of having Tourettes as well as ASD. At the moment I am not pursuing although I have discussed it with our Paediatrician as DS is already on medication. Actually, we had one of those weird SN laughs and both said "thank god he can't talk", rather shocked the two medical students sitting in on the appointment! I have got some info which I'm just printing out and will see if there's anything useful there and post it. I will look into it but I'm not in a great hurry.

Just wanted to say, please don't give up on the SN boards, your post sounded a bit final. Even if there isn't anyone around with direct experience of Tourette's you will still find it invaluable on here for 'general' SN support and there is so much help and experience around.

My Dd has William's Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy. There are no other mums around at the moment with experience of William's Syndrome but there is still a lot of understanding and help to be offered and we can all relate to each other's problems.

No no everyone I'm not going anywhere .. it obviously didn't come out quite how I meant it. You're all lovely to bother. M is a mixture of all sorts of bits and pieces, nothing straight forward - Tourettes is only part of it. ASDs been ruled out by GOSH. I'm following all the BIBIC threads with great interest as we're currently going down that path. Thanks for caring.
