Was given sons dx today

The paed said today that she doesnt normally do this, but had seen enough from ds to dx autism and she thinks he is dyspraxic also and has referred to OT. She said she will send it to panel, but is under no doubt and will put her findings in writing to ourselves and the school so that he can get esap funding asap for 1-1 help.

He is also to have an endoscopy for the relux, piedro boots and arches and SALT (she said was more specialist than the one we have already been referred to).

For the toilet problems, she said as per Jabberwocky mentioned fecal impact, and has prescribed movacol, will refer to a dietician but doesnt want to yet, as fears it will all be too much for him.

Then after all that I had a funeral, at least I could have a good cry on my own.

Poor you, it sounds like the hardest of days. There is hope though - my DS is also autistic and has verbal dyspraxia, and is doing really well. This week he learned to type his own name on a computer, and I could not be more proud if he had gained a PHD in astrophysics! Big hugs to you, and I reckon a large drink is in order.

Must have been a very difficult day, but it sounds like everyone is really working towards helping you and your son which can only be a good thing.

Thanks Notfromroundhere, I think now the initial shock and upset has worn off, I am relieved, I know sometimes that dx can take years, so just glad, that we will now have some support for him. I would hate for him to go through school not being able to cope.

I still think I must have had blinkers on for years though.

Sorry its been a hard day Alfiemama. Once you have a Dx it all starts to fit into place but it is usual to be up and down a bit so you may need to be kind to yourself for a while. Oh and ds likes his movicol in juice if the taste is not to Alfie juniors taste.

Sorry you've had such a touch and draining day AM. As the others have said, it is the start of him receiving the help he needs, and things can only get better for you from here (right?).

DD is on movicol we put it in either her milk with her cereal or in a yoghurt,ive also been known to stick it in mashed potatoe!!

Thanks Jenk1, unfortunately he wont have milk, has to have dry cereal, perhaps yoghurt may work, will give that a go.

Just had to force it down him in water (I dont mean physically force, in case I get flamed lol), he was gagging and spluttering, not nice, but have to be cruel to be kind
