Hi
My daughter has been diagnosed with DDH
and is going to have surgery on her left hip to put it back in joint and try to keep it there.
After surgery she will be in plaster cast for 3-4 months.
She is 14 months at the moment, expecting to have surgery in a couple of months time.
Does anyone have any experience of this?
Is it possible for the child to go to nursery whilst in the cast?
Any tips appreciated!

hiya
my dd had a ddh left and was in a cast from age 4.5 months to 9 months and then a plastic harness until 1 year, she was also in a pavlic harness from aged 3weeks until 12 weeks(unsuccessful hence the open surgery route)
speak to the unit where your dd will be treated, have a look on the steps website(there is a special area for ddh)
be organised- car seat, buggy, favourite items

where are you being treated?
dd was treated at rjah, oswestry and they were fantastic and still are!

some children become mobile whilst wearing the plaster cast others don't but there are appliances to assist with daily living

one handy hint- do not allow food to go into the cast (double bib, and a handy catching tray bib...won't tell you a story about another child and food and a slightly smelly cast!!!(yuk)
shout if you want any more info and good luck xx
