Childcare?

I posted a couple of months ago, asking what parents of SN children do for childcare, and having been accepted to university to become a Learning disability nurse, I have decided to take the plunge and offer my services for childcare in the Surrey area.

I guess I'd be looking for babysitting type work, although I would consider a full time position, however this could only be unitl September, when I go to university.

Having posted here before, I got the feeling that parents who have SN/LD children find it hard to find people to care for their children.. after all, everyone needs a break at some point!!

I am CRB checked and paediatric first aid trained. I have been a young carer for my brother with asperger syndrome for 5 years and I was a 1:1 carer for a little girl with downs syndrome. Obviously I have a passion for this type of work, and I understand first hand how difficult finding people to look after your little ones can be!

you can contact me via here, or on mccullochcj @ aol DOT com.

I hope I don't get told off for posting here.. I am only trying to help

I am possibly a bit shocked that no one has replied! What do I have to do/change to help out needy parents doing the best job I could think of?! Any ideas?!

whereabouts in surrey?

must have missed your first thread (althugh wasn't in surrey then anyway), but could possibly be interested, depending on area.

also, would you be happy dong waking hours childcare?

aupair101 · 09/01/2009 15:06

Hi silverfrog, I am in the Redhill/Reigate area, but I don't mind commuting.

And yes I would be happy doing waking hours care, but obviously you would have to be fairly local!

Where are you based?

Silverfrog?! Are you there?!

Or anyone else that may be interested

i'm close to Epsom, so not a million miles away, but would understand if you thought that was too far.

we don't need anybody regularly, but have occasional problems, and usually during waking hours!

email me on silverfrog13 @ gmail . com, and we can take this off-board

Do you only work with children with learning disabilities?
We would love a helper/companion a couple of times a month for DS (14) (mild/mod cp, mobile and verbal (very) needs help with two-handed tasks and personal care, typical teenager spends most of his time on his computer or Wii). Unfortunately, you would also need to have dd(7) as well, although she is a sensible lass.
Possibility of o/n on odd occasion (although all usually quiet 10pm-7am).
Croydon area.
Let me know if it's something you might consider and I'll give you my email. No hard feelings if not - teenagers aren't really my cup of tea either.
Good luck with it.

aupair101 · 10/01/2009 17:27

I don't ever want to close doors on myself by saying ONLY children with LD! I'd certainly consider it Springlamb, my email address is [email protected] if you want to email me, and I'll contact you straight back.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
