DS2 has been referred to the consultant that deals with disabilities and specialises in ASDs (looked him up on google!). I knew he had been referred but fully expected to wait a very very long time to see him....its 6th Jan!!! I know i am lucky to have got the appt thru so quickly but although i was relieved that the initial consultant could see there was a "problem", now it feels Real and i am bit mixed about it really.

I felt the same. I was glad that someone was taking my concerns seriously and absolutely terrified at the same time that they agreed there was a 'problem'. Maybe they had a cancellation and thats why you've got an appointment so quickly. Good luck {{{hugs}}}

blimey that's quick - maybe there's a hospital target??? Of course you feel mixed - I was absolutely bricking it before DS's joint clinic appointment last year - but 1)whatever the upshot he's the same little lad 2)the appointment is only stressful for us - to him it will be playing with toys while mummy answer some questions and 3)the important thing IMO is that they get your child and his needs right - more important than what the actual answer is.

Oh last thing - you may not get a definitive answer in Jan - either because they need more appointments or because they need more time to see how he develops. I didn't get a definitive answer for DS last year - just a @language delay but probably not ASD.

I know i may not get answers but it's REAL now. Does that make sense? FWIW, we do have a fantastic hospital with its own childrens hospital attached and ime they have been very very good (and my experience isn't just paeds either!)

yes, it makes complete sense - that on the one hand you fight for these appointments - but on the other hand you just want to scream and run out the building and not get your kid put under the microscrope.
