Consultant coming into childs school

Feeling a bit worried, ive been told earlier today by childs school that consultant has called a meeting tomorrow in school. The headteacher also informed me that my childs funding is being withdrawn. Feeling very confused, his new teacher thats hes had for 4 months has said he needs no help. But hes had support full time since nursery for nearly 3 years. He regulary comes home upset, saying no-ones played with him. He has chewed all the tips of his fingers, but according to teachers he doesnt chew them. How can 1 teacher say there is nout wrong, when previous teachers, docs etc say hes autistic, global developmentsl delay etc. She basically has said before the problem is us his parents.

It sounds as if the consultant is going in to sort the school out. Will you be able to attend?

Im able to go, but feeling scared. Not very good talking with professionals. Im just scared that the consultant is going to side with the teacher as shes professional. If he does, im scared their going to think im a liar and take my kids away.

Of course they won't take your kids away! Do go if you can, and if you can take someone with you do as well - always easier with a friendly face. Is this a paediatrician or someone else who has called the meeting?

Do you have photos or videos you can take that show the problems. It's much easier than trying to explain, and the pros listen more.

Agree with jimjams. Assume the consultant is a medic - I really don't think he would bother with going to school unless he wanted to bollock them for threatening to withdraw support.

Our Paed offers to go into schools if he thinks they need to be reminded that the problems are real and what help should be given. If he was going to side with the school he wouldn't bother going in. He'd just tell you separately.

hi, thanks for the support, just cant believe this teachers attitude. Shes had a go at me before because he was off for a day ill, but the day before shed asked me to take him to the docs. She says hes got loads of friends, but yet he tells his dad and me that he has to ask the other children if he can play with them. Often ends up himself. Its breaking my heart that after fighting to get him help, one teacher can take it all away.Also his prievous teacher had noticed him having some sortof drop attacks, but this teacher has said they dont happen.

DD,s consultant psychiarist and also a clinical psych went into school last week,this was after i phoned them to tell them that school were making DD sit on the toilet against her will,the psych had already written to school telling them not to do so.

it does sound like the consultant is going in to sort the school out like jimjams suggested,they do come across this a lot,this also happened with DS and recently with my nephew,on both times the consultant told school exactly about the childrens difficulties and smoothed over the problems.

last week after the visit to DD,s school the psych phoned me and told me that there will be no more forced toileting,she had made that clear to school,since then the teacher hasnt really looked me in the eye-am i bothered?????? NO!!!!!

your DS teacher sounds like my DS teacher (who was a complete cow and the SENCO) she did EVERYTHING to stop him getting a dx of ASD, so in the end we went over her head.

good luck for tomorrow,remember the consulants are on DSs side,they must get awfully frustrated at the way some education "experts" consider they know everything about a child.

also second what jimjams says,we try and show video (off DH phone) and photos of DD having difficulties,not nice to see or hear but sometimes the only way to prove what you are saying.
